The Jazz Band at Banderas, Michigan Ave., Chicago
Geo and I went to Banderas for dinner, drinks, and music. Meeting the Bass player, and visiting with him, was icing on the cake. Robert said, "Jazz is my thing. We start with the music and then embellish. I accept that I won't make money and have no paid leave." Asked what is important to him, "Music, obviously, friends, music and food." Sami from Quartino at 626 State in Chicago (Left) We walked almost two miles to Quartino and arrived to a jumble of loud, crazy, frenetic people, many who were a part of bachlorette parties. When we finally were seated, George opens the menu and asks me, "How does the roasted young octopus sound?" I almost left. But then Sami showed up. Positive despite 25 tables, Sami told us, "There are worse things than being busy. If you can't handle it get a different job." We had a super meal and a fun evening. And yes, we had the baby octopus. |
MarvinMarvin, above, started selling concessions at Wrigley field in 1969. He began with peanuts and now is a beer guy. He had energizer bunny speed going up and down the bleachers. He may well have served us, when my family went to the Friendly Confines, in the late 60's and 70's!

Bartending FunThese two bartenders in Chicago loved their jobs. They danced behind the bar, chatted to customers and made an excellent martini.
