Did you know.......
The Willis Tower (formerly the Sears tower) is 110 stories and the tallest building in the western hemisphere. It's elevators are the fastest in the world. Four states are visible from it's sky deck, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin and Michigan. |
Given the average temp in January is 24 degrees,
with 37 inches of snow every winter, I hope Mayor Rom Emmanuel is working on help for the homeless population. |
Chicago Firsts....the ferris wheel, softball game, free Cultural Center, mail order business(Montgomery Ward), planetarium, blood bank, drive in bank, and televised US presidential debate (between JFK & Nixon).
November 22, 1947, my parents were married and went for a week long honeymoon to Chicago, Illinois. During that time they enjoyed the big bands that played major hotel restaurants in the city.
Every anniversary after that, Marge and Charlie spent a long weekend in the Windy City. Highlights were Franz Bentler's strolling violin, shopping the magnificent mile and a 35th wedding anniversary surprise by their children. (Let's never forget the hats and tuxedo!)
Marge always told me, " Go on a honeymoon close to home and you will live it over and over."
